Out in the Field
Enjoy riding your monsties in an open world built like an outdoor adventure course,
ready to test the limits of your riding actions.
Change Monsties on the fly, letting you easily swap through your party for riding actions like flying and wall climbing.
Use actions like ranged and melee attacks on nearby monsters to gain an advantage before battle even starts.
More Paths to Victory in Battle
The turn-based battle system with Power, Speed, and Technical attacks has been further improved.
The baseline of a winnable rock-paper-scissors, beloved in previous titles, remains,
but we've added more strategic options to gain a win in battle.
The Three Attack Types
There are three attack types—Power, Speed, and Technical—that make up the base of the battle system, similar to rock-paper-scissors.
Power
Speed
Technique

Monsters' attack types will change when they transform or undergo status changes,
but paying close attention to their behavior and listening to your comrades' advice can enable you to guess their patterns.Head-to-Head & Double Attacks
When you and your opponent are targeting each other directly, you'll enter a Head-to-Head.
Choosing the correct attack type in a Head-to-Head enables you to deal significant damage,
greatly filling the Kinship Gauge.Breaking Parts
Each monster part has its own durability gauge, and bringing that gauge to zero will break the corresponding part.
Breaking parts confers a variety of advantages, including getting rare materials or stopping monsters from taking certain actions.
The Wyvernsoul Gauge
The Wyvernsoul Gauge represents a monster's fighting spirit,
and reducing the gauge to zero will stagger it.
Staggered monsters lose Wyvernsoul Stock and enter a Fatigued state,
making their attacks easier to dodge. If a monster's Wyvernsoul Stock is fully depleted, it will be Toppled.
Synchro Rush
Once a monster is Toppled, you can perform a Synchro Rush.
Not only do you get to inflict massive damage,
your Kinship Gauge is also greatly filled,
getting you closer to unleashing a Kinship Skill or other massive attack.
Side Stories
Side stories are additional storylines centered around the protagonist and their fellow Rangers.
With side stories spotlighting each of the protagonist's friends, you can get to know them more deeply.
In addition, by completing side stories you can gain a variety of benefits for party gameplay,
such as rewards useful in progressing the game, new weapons or Monsties for the Rangers,
or the strengthening of their unique skills.
Character Creation
You'll begin the game by customizing your character in the character creator.
Choose variables like body, hairstyle, and skin color to make the protagonist your own.
Customization is also available during the course of the game, from the Rangers' base.
Endangered Species and Invasive Monsters
Finding and securing endangered species' eggs in order to protect and
restore the natural environment is one of the important duties for the Rangers,
the group of which the protagonist is the captain.
With the Crystal Encroachment threatening the ecosystem, and invasive monsters running amok,
Rathalos are not the only species considered endangered.
Invasive monsters are incredibly strong, able to threaten other monsters and take over their territory.
Dens in their territory sometimes contain endangered species' eggs.
Invasive Monster Retreat Battles
The Rangers find an Invasive monster and hope to rescue an endangered species' egg, but it won't be an easy task.
Instead of slaying the monster in battle, they'll try to drive the Invasive monster back to its den.
Invasive monsters are incredibly strong: they can't be beaten using normal battle tactics.
Sneak into the invasive monster's den while it's sleeping... then grab the endangered egg and run for it!
Find out how to make an invasive monster retreat, in this new twist on the classic Stories gameplay.

Raising Monsters
Monster Hunter Stories 3: Twisted Reflection provides a new gameplay cycle where you can protect monsters,
preserve their ecosystem, and truly roleplay as a Ranger.
Form a new and exciting relationship with the Monsties you raise!
Habitat Restoration
After hatching a monster, release it into the wild, allowing it to put down roots and rebuild the species.
The Rangers call this practice Habitat Restoration. When a monster population has been restored, their eggs can be found and hatched into Monstie partners. Habitat Restoration can be performed with more than just endangered species as well.
Ecosystem Rank
Hatching and releasing monsters into the wild will affect that area's Ecosystem Rank.
As the Ecosystem Rank rises, eggs become easier to obtain,
and Monsties can hatch with special skills or genes. There are even special monsters that can only be obtained through Habitat Restoration!
Dual-Element Monsters
Raising the Ecosystem Rank can even allow you to find monsters imbued with that area's element.
Monsters with an area's element applied to them are called Dual-Element monsters. For example, a monster that is normally thunder element may be influenced by the fire element of the area where it is hatched from, causing it to be born with fire skills and even fire appearances.
Rite of Channeling
The Rite of Channeling is a Rider technique that combines the genes of Monsties and can awaken new skills.
As with Habitat Restoration, the Rite of Channeling can also be performed at camp. This time, you can choose a particular gene from the list, and if none of your Monsties have the gene you are looking for, you can even use the "Find in Field" option to track down wild monsters that have that specific gene.
In addition, neither Monsties nor their genes will be consumed by the Rite of Channeling, so you can experiment with all sorts of gene combinations.Genes and Bingo Bonuses
Each gene has a type: Power, Speed or Technical.
It also has an element: Fire, Water, Thunder, Ice, Dragon or Non-Elemental. Lining up three of the same type or element horizontally, vertically or diagonally will trigger a Bingo Bonus.
Bingo Bonuses increase the power of the attack type (pattern) or element (color) of the row in which they occur. In addition, gaining multiple Bingo Bonuses can bring an additional bonus. You can also change gene slots freely.
Take your time thinking of the best genes and how to arrange them.
Raise up your Monsties in your own unique style!

Calamitous Elder Dragons
Calamitous Elder Dragons are incredibly powerful Elder Dragons that can bring about terrible destruction.
Fulfilling particular conditions may cause them to appear.
After reducing their HP to a certain amount, Calamitous Elder Dragons can be repelled even if your Hearts fall to zero.
Repelling a Calamitous Elder Dragon will not gain you any EXP or rewards,
but the Calamitous Elder Dragon will start the next battle with reduced HP.
Slaying a Calamitous Elder Dragon results in rewards such as new skills for your battle allies,
or the strengthening of that area's Habitat Restoration effects.
