KTM Join Forces With World #5
KTM Australia has announced the signing of Hunter Lawrence, who finished fifth in the 65cc Junior Motocross World Championship in Italy last weekend.
Lawrence finalised a deal with the Austrian manufacturer to compete aboard the 65 SX and 85 SX models supported by KTM Brisbane right before travelling to Europe for the world titles.
“I’m stoked to ride KTMs and the bikes are exactly what I need to continue getting good results,” the 12-year-old from Landsborough in Queensland said.
“I feel really comfortable on the bikes and they are really fun to ride. I’m looking forward to more races with them now!”
Lawrence starred as top performing Australian rider at the world championships last week, setting the fastest 65cc lap of the entire weekend in timed practice before going on to score 8-3 results in the motos for fifth overall.
Lawrence stunned as he raced through the 40-rider pack in moto one after falling in the first turn.
Also this season, Lawrence has so far won both the 10-12 years 65cc and 9-11 years 85cc divisions in the Queensland Motocross Championship, and placed second in the 11-12 years 85cc New Zealand Motocross Championship.
He also leads the Sunshine State series on the 65cc and 85cc with one round remaining.
Last season saw Lawrence win the 9-11 years 65cc Australian Motocross Championship, plus finish second in the 9-12 years 150cc four-stroke title and fourth in the 9-12 years 85cc ranks. He was also the New Zealand champion in the 9-11 years 65cc category.

OUR WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP CHARGER
" Never give up, The race is not over until the chequered flag falls"
Hunter has returned from the world Junior motocross championship as the highest placing Australian rider posting a 5th place overall . How he acheived the result reflects the drive, heart and desire this kid has to acheive his dream. The World title chase started friday with Hunter fastest in timed practice , setting the scene for a great weekend. Saturday qualifying saw Hunter in the top 10 easily making the sunday main event. Moto 1 saw Hunter involved in a first turn crash and remounting in 38th facing the epic task of chasing down 37 of the fastest riders in the world. Never shy of a challenge he set off picking them apart on the hardpack circuit ending the moto in 8th place. Bad luck off the start again haunted him in moto 2 and this time had to chase from 37th and in doing so would of created some dejavu for his competitors by passing everyone but the lead two riders by motos end.

2010 AUSTRALIAN TITLE REPORT by Hunter Lawrence
well I have just had the best week catching up with team mates ,racing and just the whole excitement of such a week...the only thing that dampens it a bit was not reaching all my goals..which was to podium all 3 classes I entered I only podiumed in 2 classes...
I won the 65cc 9-11yrs and came 2nd in the 150 9-12 yrs and just fell short in the 85 9-12yrs by coming 4th overall.....
The 65 class had qualifying and I am stoked to say I went undefeated all week in qualifiers and finals i rode safe and didnt push too hard so I would finish all my finals and make sure I won... I didnt get any holeshots so no free grip from Kwala in this class...hahaha ...oh and Thanks heaps dad for fixing my rear brakes as I had to pull off a lap early in the 65 practice due to my rear brake locking on....
Int the 150 class we had an up and down week ..Moto 1 I was having a great battle with hilly for the lead but with about 2 laps to go my bike stated to be really hard to turn ect mum and dad thought I looked tired and I was getting messy but I was fine, then after the finish line and last lap board the bike totally missed the rut and then as I headed to the whoops and the next tabo it happen... yep had a big crash that was when I saw I had a totally flat front tire no wonder why the bike felt wrong...so I got going again and by riding carefully I just got 3rd..the next .moto the shock decided it wouldnt work and had no rebound which made it really skatey in the rear end I thought I had a rear flat but imanage to still get 2nd
cut a long report short it took me 4 motos till I finally got the hang of the 150 and finishing the race in first and finally got a holeshot free grips yeeewww it was my last race of the whole week :D.....lol so I ended up 2nd overall in the 150class....
The 85 class was stacked with awesome riders and I really wanted to do well but unfortunately in practice my race bike blew up so we had to race my praccy .. the funny thing was we didnt even have a fresh piston or ring for the old girl....so at tracks in qld normally it wouldnt matter as ours are alot rougher but this lakes track was so fast and smooth so I put my head down and did what i could. .I couldnt believe it though when I got passed on the straight by 2 bikes wilson and hilly ...their yammys fly and I had my bike pinned i didnt tink the old girl even though its a stocker was that slow hahaha i wish i had my race bike going as it was so fast ... any way I was tied in 3rd overall going into the last moto... I didnt get a good start and had to push through the pack my bike was startin to get hot or something as I knew I had to jump the big tabletop to keep near the riders in front of me for the run up the hill but my poor old bike wouldnt even make it I kept casing it no matter how hard I tried and it was getting worse each lap. I think it was leaning out...lol then dad had said to me just be thankfull iIfinished as the bike started to blow smoke from the engine on the last lap..I got back to 6th place ...so I ended up in 4th overall with a 5th,3rd,6th....iIknow aussies titles often require some luck and considering the week some of my friends had I am happy ours was only minor things like only one bike, so my luck was pretty good....
I would have liked QLD 1,2 and 3 and to be up there with my team mate mitch but even though I didnt I was soooo stoked for Mitch to win it he deserved it ..... oh and I was also picked for the qld team and we won .. The huge trophy now comes back to qld yeeeeewwww!!!!!!!!
I am "super pumped" to win the aussies on my 65 and I still have next year for the other 2 classes I am gonna miss racing Mitch Evans and Wilson Todd, racing them helps me keep fast.....
i would like to thank Greg from moss institute and Matt Moss for his encouragement this week
Richard from Crazydogs Kawasaki for lending me the 150 and for all his support through the year ...
Paul from M.P.E suspension
silkolene oils
Rampant clothing
Motoxvest
and Kyle from Lazyboy graphics
and finally my Family as I know this year has sorta been a bad year with alot of stuff going wrong and I am sooo happy Icould turn it around and win for you and everthing you give up for me to follow my dream..
and like I said in my speech on sat night I want to dedicate my 65 win to my Ma-ma who was meant to be here at the aussies with me this year but passed away from cancer 2 months too early.. this was my first aussie title win and it meant so much to me just like she did...

Team Australia Take Oceanic Title
Australia wins 2010 Oceania MX Championship
The team of junior riders representing Australia at last weekend’s Oceania Motocross Championship has arrived home after successfully defeating their New Zealand counterparts.
The 2010 Oceania Motocross Championship was held in Harrisville, New Zealand on Sunday 7 March, and Australia’s 15-strong team proved too strong in both the 125cc and 65cc classes, while the honours went to the host nation in the 85cc class.
The riders warmed up for Sunday’s trans-Tasman event by participating in the Auckland Motocross Championships on Saturday, where the Aussie juniors performed well and, more importantly, allowed the riders to familiarise themselves with the Pukekohe track in preparation for Sunday’s main event.
“The track was absolutely fantastic, but it was one where passing was difficult,” Australian Team Manager Mark Willingham explained.
“The club was brilliant - each of our riders and their families were billeted out to a host family, which set the tone for what was simply an awesome weekend – undoubtedly one of the best events I’ve ever attended.”
The 2010 Oceania MX Championship, unlike previous years, was held as a Juniors-only event, a format which was well-supported by both countries.
“The fact that it was only Juniors this year was terrific,” Willingham continued.
“It was a great format which seemed to work really well, and provides amazing opportunities for younger riders to represent their country – they were all as keen as mustard!”
In the 125cc class, Matt Phillips impressed by taking out Race One and finishing second in Race Two, Errol Willis led at one stage before finishing third in Race Two, while Kale Makeham’s solid performances helped Australia narrowly claim the class victory by a two-point margin.
Joel Dinsdale was the only Australian to feature on the podium in the 85cc class – he finished third in Race One and second in Race Two – and this enabled New Zealand to claim a four-point class victory.
Contrary to the close results witnessed in the two older classes, the 65cc class was dominated by Australia, where the margin was 20 points after the two races.
Jordan Hill and Hunter Lawrence finished first and second respectively in both 65cc races, while Jackson Williams showed plenty of fight by riding and finishing both races despite suffering a knee injury in Sunday morning’s practice session.
“The young Aussie riders are able to start racing at an earlier age than the New Zealanders, and that was predominantly why the 65cc results turned out the way they did,” Willingham said.
“Otherwise, the racing was extremely tight in both the older classes, as well as being intense and spirited.
“Off the track everyone looked after each other really well, new friends were made and there was some really great relationship-building between both countries.”
